Matty Released from Prison After Samson’s Confession Face-Off | Emmerdale spoilers 22nd to 26th July

Emmerdale confirms Matty Barton’s fate following Samson Dingle’s confession. Matty, who has been wrongfully imprisoned for weeks, finally confronts Samson upon his release. Matty’s ordeal began when Samson was pressured by his troublesome friend Josh Cope to frame Matty for a stabbing.
Last week, Samson broke down during an emotional conversation with his dad, Sam, and stepmom, Lydia, confessing to the crime but omitting Josh’s role. In the July 17th episode, Samson stepped in when Sam snapped at Lydia, insisting that his father was blaming the wrong person. Samson, aware of Sam’s row with Cain, invited his father to take his anger out on him instead of arguing with Lydia. “It’s a bit late for that now,” a dejected Sam replied.
Meanwhile, Moira visited Matty in prison, sharing the news about Samson’s confession and assuring him that his release was imminent. Matty was eventually freed off-screen, with viewers later seeing Moira, Cain, and Amy worried when Matty disappeared after his court hearing. “Moira, I’m scared,” Amy confessed. “When the judge said he could leave, he didn’t say anything.”
Moira found Matty sitting alone near a playground, and the two shared a tearful hug as Matty apologized for causing worry. Samson approached to apologize, but Matty was not receptive, warning Samson that protecting Josh was dangerous. “I wasn’t even sure I was going to make it out,” Matty admitted. “I barely slept. I couldn’t eat. I wouldn’t wish prison on anyone, but good luck to you, mate.”
Meanwhile, Josh and his friends confronted Chas outside the pub, protesting their ban. As the menacing group surrounded Chas, Liam Cavanagh stepped in to defend her. When Josh tried to shove Liam, the doctor quickly threw him to the ground and warned him never to return.
Moira brought Matty home shortly after, and while the family celebrated his release, Matty hid the trauma he was still processing. Will Matty open up about his harrowing experience in prison?
