In Emmerdale, Cain Dingle is left stunned after being attacked by someone close to home, leading to a major whodunit. The Dingle family was temporarily torn apart when Matty Barton was imprisoned for stabbing Samson Dingle. Matty’s family, including Moira and Cain, were adamant that Matty was innocent and deeply worried about his safety in prison. Cain was convinced that Samson was lying about the incident and tried to get him to confess, causing a rift between him and the rest of the Dingles who initially supported Samson.
Even after Samson admitted the truth and Matty was released, tensions remained high. Matty had endured a severe beating in prison, orchestrated by a friendly cellmate to get him to the hospital for safety. The mental trauma he experienced was immense, leaving him in constant fear. Moira, still furious with Samson, was not in a forgiving mood, especially since Samson was protecting Josh, the real instigator.
In the August 5 episode, Samson finally stood up to Josh, with fighting lessons from Cain under his belt. Samson confronted Josh, demanding he admit his role in the stabbing. When Josh refused and taunted him, Samson attacked him, an incident captured on Eric Pollard’s CCTV. Someone reported it to the police, and a smirking Moira at the Woolpack made Cain suspect she was responsible.
Back at Butler’s Farm, Cain confronted Moira, asking if she had called the police. She countered by blaming Cain for teaching Samson to fight, arguing that he hadn’t done enough to protect Matty. Accusing Cain of letting Matty suffer in prison while he prioritized Samson, Moira’s anger boiled over. She hurled a glass at Cain, narrowly missing his head, and furiously declared that the family would be better off without him.
