Samson had been stabbed in dramatic scenes the previous month, with Matty blamed after the knife he was holding ended up in Samson’s stomach. Before the incident, Samson’s vile friend Josh had made transphobic comments to Matty and flirted with Matty’s wife, Amy, despite her recent marriage.

The situation escalated when Matty warned Josh to back off, but Josh pushed Samson onto the knife Matty was holding. Samson was rushed to the hospital, while Matty was arrested and struggled in prison due to a lack of CCTV footage to support his claims.
