In recent weeks, Cain and his wife Moira Dingle have been tirelessly working to secure Matty’s release, even risking their own marriage. Matty’s odds are stacked against him, especially with Samson Dingle insisting that Matty intentionally stabbed him. However, in reality, Matty’s transphobic friend Josh had pushed Samson onto the knife.

Before being imprisoned, Matty made a desperate attempt to convince Samson to tell the truth, which led to his arrest for violating bail conditions. In prison, Matty has been hiding his transgender identity, avoiding showering with other inmates and refusing his hormone medication, which has only worsened his situation.

Earlier this week, Matty was confronted by his new cellmate, Les, who quickly asserted dominance with intimidating remarks. In the June 28th episode, Cain visited Matty in prison and noticed his distress. Cain gave him some tough Dingle advice: to fight back and hurt those who hurt him. However, Matty knew that violence was not in his nature.

Later, in his cell, Les lashed out after being unable to find his tobacco. He grabbed Matty by the jumper and threatened to kill him if he had taken it. Matty was horrified as Les laughed off his fear and walked away.
