UNFORESEEN CONSEQUENCES!! Why Did Ryan Hawley Leave Emmerdale? Inside Explosive Exit After Soap Legend Makes Casualty Debut
Ryan Hawley surprised TV fans last week with his return to soapland, debuting on BBC1’s Casualty. Here’s everything to know about his exit from ITV’s Emmerdale. Holby City Hospital welcomed Ryan Hawley as Jamie Cleveland, an old friend of nurse Cam Mel, in the medical drama’s latest episode, “Storm Damage,” which aired on June 15, 2024.
While fans were thrilled to see him on screen again, many have been campaigning online for his return to the Yorkshire Dales, especially since his on-screen husband, Aaron Dingle, made his own comeback to Emmerdale last year. Ryan first appeared in Emmerdale in 2014 as Robert Sugden, the adoptive son and brother of Sarah and Victoria Sugden. During his time in Emmerdale, Robert was central to many dramatic storylines, including his tumultuous relationship with Chrissy White and his romance with Aaron.

Robert and Aaron, affectionately dubbed “Robron” by fans, quickly became a beloved couple on the show, unofficially marrying in 2017. However, their happiness was cut short when it was announced in June 2019 that Ryan would be leaving Emmerdale. An ITV representative stated that Ryan wanted to explore other projects and take a break from the show, hinting that his departure might not be permanent.
In 2019, after his sister Victoria’s sexual assault, Robert killed her attacker, Lee Posner, and was sentenced to 14 years in prison. This led to his separation from Aaron, and despite fans’ hopes for a reunion, Robert remains behind bars.
Since leaving Emmerdale, Ryan Hawley has appeared in several TV shows, including Silent Witness and All Creatures Great and Small. He has also been busy offscreen, married to Daisy Prestes de Oliveira and welcoming a son in 2021.
Danny Miller, who plays Aaron, revealed in April 2024 on Loose Women that a Robron reunion isn’t imminent, as Ryan is focused on his family and other projects. However, fans can catch Ryan Hawley in Casualty this Saturday at 8:35 p.m. on BBC1.
